Coalition members Mercer, MISTR, Molecular Testing Labs and CVS Health, together with Coalition advisors and partners, contributed to the Health Action Alliance’s latest edition of Insights Uncovered - a series from HAA that delivers valuable perspectives from industry thought leaders on the health issues facing companies. This special addition, ahead of National HIV Testing Day, explores how employers can support their teams and invest in healthier communities by encouraging employees to get tested for HIV. Check it out.
Paramount Pictures kicked off their fundraising for the 2024 AIDS Walk LA and raised over $3000 during an entertaining evening of karaoke. Paramount Pictures is the only corporate sponsor that has been with AIDS Walk LA every year since its inception in 1985. This year the walk is Sunday, October 13. Consider organizing your own corporate team to participate in AIDS Walks this year around the country.
Action From the Coalition
The Coalition helped inform a new action brief released this month from the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions - U.S. Business Action to End HIV and Advance Health Equity. The National Alliance is the only nonprofit, purchaser-led coalition with a national and regional reach, representing more than 40 regional and local employer/purchaser coalitions, which together represent more than 12,000 employers with more than 40 million covered lives, spending over $400 billion annually on healthcare in the commercial market. Highlights of the action brief include five actions employers can take to end HIV, an overview of HIV and the latest U.S. stats, as well as an invitation for companies to learn more about the Coalition.
The National Alliance is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, June 25, 12-1pm ET, to compliment the release of the action brief, featuring Director Mario Harper, Coalition members ViiV Healthcare and One Medical, as well as Accenture, who will share their experiences centering HIV in their work. Learn more and register for the webinar.
On June 7 Mario attended the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Pride in Business Luncheon with representatives from Coalition members Avita Care Solutions, Chevron, Gilead Sciences and ViiV Healthcare. They were also joined by Houston community-based organizations and public health leaders from Allies in Hope, Crofoot Research Center, the Houston Health Department, and the Ryan White Planning Council.
The event welcomed more than 750 attendees to celebrate businesses, community members, and allies making an impact on LGBTQ+ advancement in the Houston area, and provided an opportunity to continue to lay the groundwork for the launch of the Houston chapter this September.
